Barley
BC100
This is a proprietary variety of Malting Barley exclusive to use in contracts with Miller-Coors. BC100 (abbreviated for Bill Coors 100) is a high yielding, high malting quality barley well suited for irrigated ground. It is a 2 row short statured barley that stands up well and leaves minimal stubble and residue as a result. BC100 is also early maturing allowing earlier harvest windows. It is only available with contract production through Miller Coors.
AC METCALFE
A malting barley from the SeCan out of Canada. Metcalfe is a 2-row barley that has been used in a lot of open contract ground on both irrigated and dryland acres. Metcalfe shows good test weight, kernel plumpness and overall yield. Metcalfe is a moderate height variety with good tolerance to lodging and good loose smut resistance.
HAYMAKER
A two row hay barley out of the MSU that was purchased by Montech Seed Group. Haymaker was bred out of the Haybet lines, a long standing customer favorite. Haymaker displays better forage quality, quantity and seed yield than Haybet, making it a more affordable product. As with most hay barley varieties, Haybet is susceptible to loose smut and the seed should be treated with a fungicide to prevent such disease.
Synergy
A Canadian released variety that is now being used in Montana for malting barley contracts. Synergy is a 2-row barley that is primarily used in dryland production and aims to replace Metcalfe. It exhibits higher yield than Metcalfe and Copeland, excellent test weight and lower protein values required for malt barley acceptance.
Cowgirl
A 2-row awnless hay barley released from Montana State University. Cowgirl exhibits taller forage compared to Lavina and Haybet which translates to higher forage yield. It also has a longer grainfill period which can increase harvest flexibility.
MORAVIAN165
Moravian 165 (abbreviated M165) is a high yielding, high malting quality barley well suited for dryland ground. It is a 2 row medium statured barley that was bred and released by the Miller-Coors breeding program. As such, it is available only when contracted with Miller Coors.
HOCKETT
A two row malting barley from the Montana State University breeding program. Hockett is best suited for dryland acres because of its susceptibility to lodging. Hockett is a good option for open/uncontracted acres because of its ability to be sold into the feed market if malt quality grain is not achieved.
STOCKFORD
A two row proprietary hay barley. Stockford, as a hay barley is an awnless high forage yielding variety. It has been our top selling hay barley for a good part of the last decade plus. Stockford consistently produces high yielding forage with great feed value. Stockford generally has a lower nitrate content than other hay barleys as well.
ABI Voyager
A 2-row malt barley owned by Anheuser-Busch to be used only for their contract production. Better straw strength and lodging resistance compared to Merit 57.
ABI Eagle
A 2-row malt barley owned by Anheuser-Busch to be used only for their contract production. Similar yields to ABI-Voyager, but with higher protein content. Good grain plumpness and excellent malt extract values.
