Winter Wheat

BATTLE AX

Battle Ax is a hard-red winter wheat released out of Colorado Wheat Research and marketed by Montech Seed Group in 2018. It is CoAXium wheat, meaning it is tolerant to Aggressor, a grassy weed herbicide. It is a different chemistry than the Clearfield system giving growers different modes of action to control grassy weeds. It is an open stemmed variety, displaying very good yields and protein levels. It is short in stature, medium early maturity and good milling and baking qualities. It can be planted on dryland and irrigated acres, but is susceptible to wheat stem sawfly pressure.

BRAWL CLP

A two-gene Clearfield hard red winter wheat released by Colorado State University in 2011 and marketed in Montana by Montech. Brawl CLP is an early maturing, medium statured white chaffed wheat with moderate stripe rust resistance. Brawl CLP has excellent test weight and good milling and baking qualities and good yield potential. Brawl can be planted on both irrigated and dryland acres. Due to it’s early maturity, it can sometimes mature early enough to beat sawfly pressure, but it is hollow stemmed and will lodge with heavy pressure.

WB4510CLP

An open stemmed Clearfield Plus WW variety that exhibits excellent yield potential and very good winter hardiness. Designed for areas that are not susceptible to sawfly pressure. This variety also exhibits excellent resistance to Powdery Mildew and Stripe Rust. Other favorable qualities include very good protein, standability and excellent test weight.

WB4733CLP

A solid stem Clearfield Plus WW much needed particularly for dryland areas with sawfly pressure. This variety exhibits excellent Stripe Rust and Winter Hardiness. WB4733CLP is a good yielding variety, although not as high as WB4510CLP or Brawl CLP, with very good test weight.

KELDIN

A high yielding hard red winter wheat developed out of Germany and released by Westbred. Keldin is a medium maturing and medium statured white chaffed wheat with stripe rust resistant.  It is suitable for irrigated and dryland production, but should not be planted on areas with high wheat stem sawfly pressure unless you are willing to swath.

WARHORSE

A hard red winter wheat released by Montana State University in 2013. Warhorse is a medium statured,  white chaffed solid stemmed wheat. It has higher winter hardiness rating than Judee, but is harder to thrash. It shows good test weight, protein and is resistant to stem and strip rust.

*PVP protected variety

WB4727

An open stemmed convential winter wheat variety with excellent yield potential under both dryland and irrigated acres. This variety displays excellent standability and very good protein, test weight and winter hardiness. WB4727 is a great option for those acres previously plant to WB4792.

Bobcat

Bobcat is a solid stemmed hard red winter wheat with improved yield potential relative to other solid stemmed varieties. Bobcat is an awned, white-glumed, semi-dwarf wheat with medium to late maturity. Stem solidness is excellent, significantly higher than to Warhorse. Bobcat has above average test weight and average protein, and average winter hardiness. Bobcat is resistant to prevalent races of stripe and stem rust, but susceptible to leaf rust.
